Agua de Sandía Watermelon Cooler Mama Latina Tips

I see green, white and red everywhere I go. Watermelon season is here. We love eating it fresh, but also we like preparing agua de sandía, or, in English, we call it watermelon cooler in our house. It is ridiculously easy to make, you just need a few ingredients and in 5 minutes you have a delicious beverage.

Mexican Watermelon Cooler

8 servings

  • 1/2 medium watermelon, seedless, peeled and cut in cubes
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 8 cups of water, divided
  • the juice of 1 key lime
  • Ice

I recommend putting the watermelon in the fridge ahead of time, so it is very cold. Pour one cup of water in a pot over medium heat. Add the sugar and mix until well dissolved, set aside and let cool down. Place the watermelon cubes and two cups of water in a blender and mix very well (depending of the size of your blender, you may need to do this two times). Pour the blended watermelon into a two liter (2 qt) pitcher, add the sugar water and the other 5 cups of water. Add the lime juice and mix well.  Cool down in the fridge and serve super cold or on ice.
