I just found out about an event that may be of interest to you if you are thinking of starting a business in Mexico.

Mexico Emprende Expo takes place this weekend August 19th to the 21st, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center.  The Expo will feature free information about resources the Mexican government has put in place to help Mexicans overseas who wish to start a business in Mexico.

It’s well known that thousands of Mexican families are living in the United States and a lot of them send money to family down in Mexico.  This money helps their families while stimulating the Mexican economy as well.  The Mexican government sees an opportunity for families to use this money to start new businesses.

The Expo Mexico Emprende is the ideal place for entrepreneurs to get information about financing, marketing, and training among other topics.

The expo also features:

  • Participation from several State Governors
  • More then 200 booths with more than 500 organizations
  • Cultural program with dance and music
  • Children’s programs with workshops and business simulators
  • Workshops and conferences with celebrities scheduled to attend including:

Alfonso Aráu, renowned Director of movies like  “A Walk in the Clouds” and “Cómo Agua para Chocolate.”

Rodolfo Riva Palacio, the first Mexican astronaut.

Alejandra González Anaya, Anima Inc Artistic Director.  Anima is a company which explores the fusion among arts, dance, and theater.

Jorge Zavala, Director of TechBA Silicon Valley, a start-up company located in San José, California.

Among others.

You can check out all the conferences here.

Expo Mexico Emprende is free and is open to anyone interested in creating or growing a business in México.  Registering online is recommended to avoid long lines at the event.

If you are interested, but unable to attend, you can get more information about this initiative by calling  1 866 975 0105 (in the USA) or 01 800 910 0910 (in Mexico)

Disclosure:  I´m being compensated for my work in creating content for the México Today Program.  I was also invited to an all-expense paid trip to Oaxaca as part of my role.  All stories, opinions, and passion for all things México shared here are completely my own.  Mexico Today is an initiative of Marca País – Imagen de México, a joint public and private sector initiative designed to help promote Mexico as a global business partner and as an unrivaled tourist destination. The program is designed to shine a light on the Mexico that its people experience every day.
