The state budget cuts have caused class sizes to grow. Last year my son had classes with 15-20 students. This year most classes have 30.

If I had $50,000 to fund a school, I would buy supplies for science projects. Fewer students are taking an interest in science. By letting kids get their hands on actual science is the best way to take material that seems dry on paper and make it exciting!

I’d love to fund a better science program. Since I studied science, I want my guy to learn a lot of it too. Budget cuts seem to mean less equipment is around, and a lot of it is outdated.

I’d fund more extra curricular activities! Thats what kids need. lots of school, like the one I attended, only have sports programs, and not every child is an athlete.

I would fund a reading tutorial program. We cannot continue to graduate students who are reading at a third grade level, and the inability to read and keep abreast of school work factors into our dropout rate.

Sadly, the ap programs have been slashed to the bare bones (advanced placement) so if I could give any program a grant that would be it. I think ALL of our kids need to be given the opportunity to reach their potential not just those who are struggling.

I help make the school healthier and happier by helping to run programs that recycle and reuse items. Without have so much need for new stuff, people that are stretched for money are happier. For instance, I have run an instrument sale where people can sell old, unused band instruments, and others can buy, often for less than renting for a year.

We are lucky in the fact that our school hasn’t made any cuts in classes but one program that our school is desperately needing is a lunch program. Right now the kids have to bring there own lunches.

There is an alternative high school here that allows children who have made mistakes in the past, but realized it, and are working to rectify them, enroll in school and work online to catch up and graduate on time. If I could allocate $50k in funds to them, I would hope they would use it for the alternative portion of the school (which is very small) to purchase a building (they are in a modular structure). I think atmoshere can work wonders.

State budget cuts have been painful. My daughter is in her last year before college and found that a lot of the AP classes have been cancelled. So she’s taking basic classes that aren’t going to look impressive on her college applications. Class sizes are larger and we’re losing all the good, young, energetic teachers to the older worn-out, just counting the days until retirement tenured teachers. It’s such a mess.

If I had $50,000 to fund one program in my child’s school, it would be a fun reading program.

I think if our school had $50,000 , I would like to see it used to make sure that kids that can’t read get the help they need so that they can. In my volunteer work with older kids, I became aware of how essential reading is to succeed in every other subject.
Thanks for the giveaway!
