Chief Family Time Officer Finds Fun in 100% Family Time Moments

You're going to like this tip about family time. It involves resources for how to spend more quality time with your family.

Thanks to the great folks at Juicy Juice for making this 100% family time post possible. As always, my comments, opinions, and drive to spend more time with my family are my own.

Even with the promise of more quality family time, I can't just shoehorn more activities into my daily schedule. Can you? That's the rub. No matter how wonderful the promise of a new activity, I'm full up, and I suspect your calendar looks the same.

Balancing life challenges us. Unsurprisingly, the data agree. According to a recent Pew Research Center report, 70% of working moms with a college degree say it's difficult for them to balance work and family life.

So what can we do?

I'm working to spread the word for the good folks over at Juicy Juice who have put together a great project for this year. You know Juicy Juice, their products have been enjoyed by families for over 40 years.

They've called it 100% Family Time. To that end, they've asked the help of an expert, Meredith Sinclair, author of “Well Played: The Ultimate Guide to Awakening Your Family's Playful Spirit,” to provide families with helpful tips and resources to create 100% Family Time moments throughout the year and beyond.

By the way, I love Meredith's book title, don't you? Anyway, to make things juicier, Juicy Juice has also launched a nationwide search. They're looking for moms, dads, and other grown-up types, who like to find the fun in their busy schedules. If you want to participate, visit this Juicy Juice website, provide a tip on how to make the most of “family time,” along with an original photo that depicts your family using your tip to enjoy “family time” together, and enter for a chance to win some amazing prizes.

In the end, nine finalists will receive a month's supply of Juicy Juice (be assured, all their products contain no high fructose corn syrup, no cane sugar, and no artificial sweeteners) and a copy of Meredith Sinclair's book, which is a great prize. But here's the kicker, one grand prize, “Chief Family Time Officer” winner will receive a month's supply of Juicy Juice and an ultimate family time getaway. What's the getaway? Nothing less than a four-day/three-night Luxury Included® vacation together to a Beaches Resort in Jamaica or Turks & Caicos. Wow!

In the meantime, getting back to what I said at the beginning about squeezing one more activity into the daily grind. My vote? No! Better to change the things we do already a tad, than add one more activity. Meredith Sinclair offers these ideas:

  • Empower kids to ask parents to turn off their phones.
  • Make meal time family time. Get the kids involved.

100% Family Time Ideas

So here are my two cents from my own personal experience. For more quality family time, we need to make each thing we do together just a little more fun. That's my take on my job as “Chief Family Time Officer.” Fun is an attitude, not an activity.

Some things I would like to try:

  • Clean the kitchen together with a musical playlist created by the kids. Dance steps encouraged.
  • Read together before bed, instead of reading separately.
  • When the kids ask to play, play. Even if only for a few short minutes.
  • Talk about funny things on the walk to school.
  • Set up a family game night.
  • Take a short walk and play with the kids

My personal challenge is to be present and have fun during 100% family time. That's the bottom line.

Enjoy and have fun!
