The Power of a Pop of Color

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, it is the power of a fresh coat of paint! And I’m not just talking about simply the power to conceal, reveal, sell, or update my surroundings, I’m talking about transforming the entire vibe of my space, the mood, the feeling, the experience.

Case in point, my kitchen.

When we moved into our current digs, the kitchen was a little, well, drab. Except for a particularly excellent door, everything was sort of a sterile, hospital white. That just won’t do for a latina, right?

Fortunately, the good folks at Lowe’s challenged me to do something with a pop of color (they must have sensed somehow that my place didn’t suit me) and I was thrilled to take them up on the challenge.

We live near the coast now and I wanted a color that evoked the feeling of the seaside. I found it! Right there in the paint department at Lowe’s, it’s called Sea Wave (5006-9C).

So what do you think?

Here’s the before picture:

And here is the after shot.

Same small kitchen with turquoise walls and a wooden door.

Now doesn’t that feel a little more coastal and latina?

The great thing is I didn’t have to paint that much to make a big impact. I just painted the wall around the door, the knobs on the cabinets and drawers, and the backsplash behind the counter.

Then I used some orange paint on my woodblock knife holder, hung up an orange washcloth, threw in some flowers and pumpkins, and it was done. It took just an afternoon and the entire feel of our home has changed.

The same Sea Wave blue was used in my submerged color project and completely transformed the bench we found. And our home is beginning to really have that coastal vibe.
