It’s not often I get the chance to be in front of an internationally renowned stylist like Irma Martinez. She’s the founder and creative director of Trendy, Inc., which offers services to the entertainment and lifestyle industries. With more than 20 years experience, this kind and gentle woman delivers high impact results. And she has some great tips for us that are simple to follow and can be applied in our daily lives.

I met her at the Hispanicize Conference in Miami, and had the good fortune of attending a luncheon at which Irma updated us on the latest trends in fashion. So today I’m going to pass on a few of her tips to you!

Irma Martinez

Irma emphasized, “You don’t need to spend lots of money to look good,” and she showed us three of the latest trends in fashion:

  • Black and white
  • A tuxedo jacket with skinny jeans
  • Light colors and light florals

I’m very happy about the light florals and the black and white, they work great for me, but I’m not sure I’m ready for the skinny jeans yet!

Here’s a fashion tip:

  • Irma says instead of just going to your closet and grabbing the first thing you find to wear, spend some time every week choosing what you will wear during the week, including accessories. She says it will save you time in the end and will help you to use all the clothes in your closet.

Now that’s something I definitely need to work on. It’s like she knows me. I usually grab the first thing, and she is right, my closet has a nice variety of clothes, but I usually wear the same things over and over. What a great tip, right?

Here’s another tip:

Look at your body and use the pieces that will make you look better. For example:

  • If you are busty, you will look better in V shaped blouses.
  • If you have a rectangular shaped body, skirts with ruffles are your best friend.

I am applying Irma’s tips to get a better wardrobe for the summer! All attendees of the luncheon received a Target gift card to do some shopping, I have my eye on a few pieces. What do you think? Should I get a pair of skinny jeans!

Irma is also working with P&G on the well known campaign, “Have You Tried This Yet?” or Has Probado Esto? in Spanish, a platform that highlights the innovation and performance behind products that can help transform your daily routine for the better. Irma showed us some of the different ways products can be used. For example, she adds Downy Shimmer Unstopables to a sachet and hangs it to let the aroma infuse her office before she receives clients. Clever, don’t you think?

Here’s a tip from me:

Since black and white is in right now, taking care of white clothes is important. I find myself wearing a lot of white during these sunnier months, so lately I’ve been adding Tide Vivid White+ Bright Boost on top of my detergent and I’m loving the results.
