I grew up with a lot of family, music, dancing and parties.
Music plays a big part in my family’s life, many of us play the guitar, and years ago my father, uncles and his friends had a “rondalla,” a group which plays and sings romantic “balladas” (ballads). Like mariachis, a rondalla is one of the traditional groups for singing “serenatas” (serenades) to the ladies at night.
Family get-togethers and parties play a big part in my life, too. Once a family gets big enough there is always a birthday, a special event, or a holiday to celebrate. Chatting, cooking, eating, and playing with my cousins were always the highlights for me. Now that I have kids, I try to share these Mexican traditions with them. We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to visit my family in Mexico about once a year, and every time my heart overflows with joy when I see my boys and husband embracing my traditions. When I ask my sons what they like best when we go to México, they always say, the food! the piñatas! the fiestas! and of course playing with their cousins!

You’ve probably guessed, since I blog a lot about movies, another of our favorite pastimes is watching movies. We like to pop up some popcorn, cuddle up on the couch and enjoy a family movie. There are several family movies coming to theaters and blu-ray this fall. One my kids have been waiting for is Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, they really enjoyed the first two. They love animals and love seeing these charismatic dogs getting in and out of trouble, having adventures and working as a team. Have you seen the Beverly Hills Chihuahua series?
