Cooking with Chef Aarón Sánchez

Keep this in mind: Mexican Chocolate Pudding Cake.

Have you seen Food Network’s “Chopped”?

I absolutely love the program.  If you haven’t seen it, I recommend checking it out. It’s a four chef cook-off with a twist.  They compete over 3 rounds, an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert, and one chef gets “chopped” by the judges after each round, leaving just one chef standing at the end.  The twist is contestants get identical baskets with special ingredients they must include in their dishes during each round. The ingredients tend to be, shall we say, in challenging combinations.

One of my favorite Chopped judges is Chef Aarón Sánchez. I like his style and his opinions are always right on point.

Some of Chef Aarón’s favorite memories involve cooking with his mom, “the power of food and family,” he says. So, Chef Aaron has partnered with Sierra Mist to launch a new program called  “Comer Juntos: Una Tradición Natural” (Eating Together, a natural tradition). It’s designed to encourage families to eat together at the dinner table and share fun times over delicious Latin-inspired dishes.

How many times a week do you get the chance to eat together as a family? How about sitting down with friends?  I confess we don’t often enough.  Fortunately, just last week we did get the chance to have good friends over for some chicken tacos and tostadas.  We had a great time and we agreed then and there, we need to do it at least once a month.  Sounds good to me!

We also enjoy cooking at home and showing our kids how fun and easy cooking is! They are beginning to embrace the idea.  How do I know?  They are asking to see, smell, and taste everything.  Cooking together is a great tradition and a great opportunity for teaching and learning.

So here’s a great tip:

One part of “Comer Juntos: Una Tradicion Natural” is a series of videos in both Spanish and English featuring Chef Aarón showing how to prepare dishes in just a few minutes.  The videos are entertaining and brief.  I started watching one and just kept on going!  They are great.  I invite you to check them out, too!

Start with this Mexican Chocolate Pudding Cake, it looks as amazing as it sounds:
