Diaper Diaries: Bring Me With You

With my first son I always checked my diaper bag, once, twice, three times before I left the house.  I brought a bottle, burping cloths, two changes of clothes, an extra pair of shoes, 4 or 5 toys, snacks, a camera, diaper rash ointment, a bottle of water, wipes, a changing pad, a sweater, a change of clothes for me, sunscreen, lotion, a small first aid pack, antibacterial soap, and diapers.

But that was not all, I usually had in my car 4 more diapers, another change of clothes, a stroller, a cart cover (for the supermarket), another blanket, more burping cloths, etc.  You get the picture.  Obviously I carried a lot more than I needed.

I didn´t know.  I was a first time mom and I wanted to be prepared for anything and everything.

Then my second baby came and I felt so confident, I started to unload, but to such an extreme that I forgot my camera the first time we took the baby to the beach.  There are no photos of that special day.  And I forgot my stroller the first time we went to Sea World.  We rented one there and then we carried the 2 year old all through the San Diego Zoo (never again!).  Yet some things never changed.  I’ve kept the blanket, the towel, the pack of wipes, and 2 or 3 diapers in my car,  even though my younger has stopped using diapers during the day and the wipes have dried up.  I know this because just this morning I cleaned my car and I found all that!

How about you? Are you a first time mom? What do you carry in your diaper bag? How about your car?
