I’m always looking to introduce Spanish into my children’s daily lives. So I’m glad as each day passes, there are more and more choices to help me. I’m especially thankful to people who create fun, quality products for children in Spanish and that’s why I’m so pleased to tell you about the music CD, “El Baile del Sombrero.” Two of my children’s favorite activities are singing and dancing and this CD stimulates both.
First, and believe me this is important, “El Baile del Sombrero” delights the ears of both children and parents. Creators Fati and Charles perform all the songs and you can even hear the sweet voices of their children on some of the tracks. “El Baile del Sombrero” is fun, colorful, loving, and rhythmically diverse. There are songs about the seasons of the year in brazilian jazz, about a flower in tango, about giving a five minutes warning before the children go to bed in cumbia, about Paco, a rag doll, in salsa, and about a hat in the music of mariachi.
It’s hard for me to choose just one favorite song, I can listen to them all over and over and over again :), but if I were forced to choose, I especially like “Somos dos (Now we are two)”, because it touches my heart and talks about the feelings of an older child when a new baby comes home.
My husband beats the rhythms on the steering wheel in the car and my kids dance along with the songs, particularily with “Paco, mi muñeco de trapo”, first because they have a dog doll called Paco and second because it is a salsa, and honestly, who can resist salsa?
Fati and Charles have created a beautiful world for children, it doesn’t matter if you speak Spanish or not, the music will move you.
You can meet Charles, Fati and their family at their English webpage Abbasubi, I just love the name. 🙂 You can hear song previews here and read the Spanish Lyrics with a short English explanation here.
