Fuel Up to Play 60 is a national campaign from the NFL and National Dairy Council, in collaboration with the USDA, promoting physical activity and good nutrition in schools. It encourages kids to eat nutrient-rich foods – which include low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains – and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
It’s designed to create sustainable change at schools by promoting access to good nutrition and increased physical activity. We all know that’s important because healthy eating and physical activity improves academic performance. Kids spend over 2000 hours each year in school, which make it the perfect place to encourage them in these good habits.
And it’s so easy to get involved. Just sign up your school for Fuel Up to Play 60. To apply for a spring grant (your school may be eligible for up to $4000), look here to find the Funds for Fuel Up to Play 60 application which is now live – deadline is June 16.
In addition, Central Valley California schools (Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Mariposa, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern counties) and students, grades 4 through 10, can participate in the Central Valley: Get In the Game Challenge from now until May 22.
The school with the highest number of student sign-ups will receive a celebration event at the school on June 3, 2015, featuring games, food and special guests from the San Francisco 49ers, including an active and/or former player and mascot Sourdough Sam.
In addition, the winning school will receive a dedicated stadium brick in the Levi’s® Stadium Fanwalk in Santa Clara, Calif.
