Niño leyendo Yoruga la Tortuga por Dr. Seuss by mamalatinatips.com

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with LéaLA and Latina Bloggers Connect. As always my comments, opinions, and love for reading to my children in as many languages as possible is my own.

Hardly anything makes my spine tingle more than listening to my boys read to me in Spanish. It thrills me on so many levels. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to them read in any language, but to hear them roll those “r”s, it just shatters me with joy.

It's hard to list all the reasons why having my children read in Spanish is so important to me. But I'm going to list just a few:

  • So they can continue to know the beauty of our native language.
  • So they have the option to hear the amazing rhythms and unique voices of Latino authors.
  • So they can continue to build an every growing and complex vocabulary in Spanish.
  • So they can reap the benefits of language switching.
  • So they can develop a deeper, richer understanding of their Latino culture and customs.

This is why I'm so pleased to announce that the University of Guadalajara, which is committed to extending its culture and arts programs for the Latino community in Los Angeles, is organizing, once again, one of the most ambitious events ever held to promote Spanish.

Feria del libro en español LeaLa en Los Angeles by mamalatinatips.com

The fourth annual LéaLA (Feria del Libro en Español de Los Ángeles), an initiative backed by the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), takes place May 15-17, 2015, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This free event hosts more than 200 publishing houses from all over Latin America. Renowned Latin American authors will be sharing insights into their books and even signing a few, too. The book fair also will have a kids' pavilion with craft activities and story lectures.

The purpose of LéaLA is to encourage reading, promote Spanish language books and foster recognition of the Latino population, their culture and customs.

Enjoy!
