My Healthy Goals for 2015

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with the California Milk Processor Board.

It's January again, and, of course, hope springs eternal. Many of us are joining gyms, enrolling in yoga classes, starting diets, throwing out clutter, and planning for financial freedom. We're ready and willing to get fit, organized, rich and smart.

But this year I plan to take all that change a little more slowly; in fact, I plan to do it just one step at a time. I'm pretty sure I'll be both happier and more positive doing it that way. I've found trying to change too many things at once hangs me up.

Each year I want to transform everything that needs improving and strike the iron when it's hot. And the new year always feels like a clean slate, a new beginning, as if all things are possible, and so I sometimes try to change too much too fast.

Don't get me wrong, I plan on working on many things. I'm just going to prioritize and work on one change at a time, instead of all at once. I'm hoping this will give me a greater chance at success and reduce some of the turmoil that change can bring. I believe I'll be more successful, happier and more positive as I progress.

So this year I'm focusing first on our health. I figure if we are healthier we will be more positive and happier and that will make working on the rest of the changes easier. I'm counting on it making us feel more energetic, too.

Here's my plan, maybe you can try it, too, or share your own plan in the comments.

A Morning Walk

My plan is to start out by walking every morning, first thing. It's as simple as that. I don't know if you've had the same experience, but I've found if I try planning my exercise later in the day, any number of distractions can sidetrack me.

So early morning is my plan this year and I'm sticking to it! I'm hoping it will get that metabolism revved up, increase my energy and productivity for the rest of the day, and get things started on a positive note.

Fuel up with Breakfast for Success

Bananas, blueberries and milk

After my walk, I'm determined to take the time to have my breakfast every day, including my milk with its many benefits. I want to start the day fueled up for success and breakfast always makes me feel better. I like milk (always have) because I feel like I'm helping my teeth, bones, hair, and muscles. Plus, I always feel satisfied when I drink it.

So this year, no skipping meals, especially breakfast! If you think you don't have time, here's a quick smoothie recipe I love. Always remember, milk fuels a better future!

Healthy Snacks

The final step in my simple plan is to have plenty of healthy snacks prepared ahead of time so I don't fall into the trap of grazing on whatever happens to be at hand. I'm taking small containers and filling them up the night before with fresh fruits and vegetables.

That's it, simple right? What are your healthy goals for 2015?
