Spring is here and I’m so excited. My garden is pushing up green shoots all over the place and I’m getting the Spring cleaning bug, too! When I get that feeling I need to take advantage of it before it goes away. Am I right?
I’m lucky this year because I have a little more motivation than just the bug. This year we’ve been given a challenge of sorts by the good folks over at Lowe’s to try our hands at a Spring cleaning and organizing project. Unlike past challenges, we didn’t have to think long about what to do, it was staring us right in the face.
The laundry room you are about to see is real…the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Don’t you just love the tropical fish shower curtain against the wall?
The reality is over time this very small room (it was a little difficult to get the photos we needed) has transformed itself into more than just a laundry room, it’s kind of a laundry room slash plumbing, electrical, and carpenter’s storage room as well. So it’s a little crowded. It’s also the main passage to the backyard! Below is the view from the other direction. The closet to the left is full of boxes and crates with the plumbing, electrical, and other things I mentioned for fixing up the house.
We decided to remove the old shelving, warm up the walls with some paint, add new flooring, and install cabinets to neatly organize and store all that stuff piling up on the floor and open shelving. I think the Valspar’s Sweet Mimosa color we chose goes really well with the rest of the house.
Of course, we had to move everything out to do the flooring and paint, but it didn’t take that long.
How’s that for Spring cleaning and organizing?! We staggered the cabinets in order to show them, but we kind of like the way they taper down between the washing machine and water heater, so we might keep them like that. In this photo you can also see our new floor, we love it! We decided on the Style Selections 12-in x 12-in Adobi Stone Finish Vinyl Tile, very inexpensive.
Below is the view of my nicely organized new cabinets. All the cleaning products are off the floor and there is room for the hamper, too. Love it!
For a final touch we mounted a hanger for the broom, duster, and mop. Nice!
So there you have it. What do you think?
