A Festive, Green, New Year’s Decoration Created with a Resolution

It’s been quite a year. So much adventure and change in our lives and it’s probably been much the same for you. With just a few hours left in the year (the number of hours has descended into the double digits) I acknowledge I’ve tried my best, but am resolved to do some things better next year.

The incredible folks at Lowe’s have asked me to do something creative to give my house a festive New Year’s holiday feeling. As I thought about it, I considered different ideas, but none really resonated or felt unique enough, until we started thinking about both this year and the year to come. And that was the inspiration for this month’s creative idea.

Our family, for one, has resolved to eat more fruits and vegetables next year. So we thought it would be fantastic to honor our resolve by symbolizing it in our festive New Year’s decoration. So here it is…

This beautiful lime tree (It’s full of limes as you can see and you know how much I love limes) is the core of the decoration. New Year’s is not just about remembrance, it’s about growth, renewal and resolve, too. So what better way to symbolize renewal than with a living, growing tree? And further, it’s a lime tree, a reminder, not just on New Year’s Eve but all year long, of our resolution to eat more fruit both next year and for years to come.

We plan to have it planted in our garden by the afternoon on New Year’s Day, after letting everyone enjoy it through New Year’s Eve, so it will grow and bear fruit and always remind us of our New Year’s Resolution for 2013.

The tree, the pot, the soil, the festive beads and curly cues all came from Lowe’s (the sparkling cider and wine glasses did not).

As an aside, I noticed this morning that Lowe’s is having a 50% Holiday Clearance right now!
