If you live near the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, you can do something good for your community while earning a free admission ticket to the Aquarium. Here are the details:
The Aquarium of the Pacific will host its 10th annual street cleanup, where the public can help stop trash before it flows to the ocean and as a consequence help reduce ocean pollution.
Where: Cesar Chavez Park, 401 Golden Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802 (next to Cesar Chavez Elementary School)
Cost: Free- Trash bags and gloves will be provided. At the end of the cleanup, each participant will receive a complimentary admission ticket to the Aquarium of the Pacific (value of $24.95) in exchange for a full bag of trash (litter, not leaves and other organic matter) collected at this cleanup site.
Info: (562) 590-3100 or Aquarium – Neighborhood Street Cleanup
Participants will also get the chance to see and touch marine animals as the Aquarium on Wheels will be on-site at the cleanup.
Something to Consider
Unless picked up, the trash in our streets, as far away as the mountains, can end up polluting the ocean and harming marine life. Endangered sea turtles often mistake plastic grocery bags for one of their favorite foods, sea jellies. ”You can help sea turtles and even other humans who eat seafood or swim at the beach by properly disposing of and picking up trash,” said Shannon Penna, Aquarium of the Pacific street cleanup organizer.
