The Grand Inauguration of Ariel’s Undersea Adventure was magical as Disney welcomed media, visitors, celebrities, Disney Executives and families to the official opening of the new attraction based on Disney´s  classic¨Little Mermaid¨ animated feature film.

The Inauguration Ceremony brought back wonderful memories as music filled the air and made us sing!  The beautiful and talented Jodi Benson (the Little Mermaid´s singing voice) sang for us along with the lovely Sherie Rene Scott, whose powerful voice brought us Ursula, and an ensemble of performers shared favorites songs from the movie.   At the appointed time, Mr. Tom Staggs, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, opened the doors of the attraction.  I have a short video filmed by yours truly just for you, enjoy!

The attraction itself charms in a six minute indoor ride using a system to move riders very similar to the Haunted Mansion´s, but using colorful seashells that you climb into to view the sights.  The music features original voices from the movie and the ride  flows gently through memorable scenes inspired by the movie from Sebastian´s happy orchestra, to the Kiss the Girl scene, to eight-legged Ursula´s domain.  The ride is not at all scary, however, not even the Ursula part, in consideration of the littlest ones.  If you enjoyed the movie, you will enjoy the ride, it is designed for all members of the family.

In spite of  significant design challenges, the imagineers score a 10, as the animation springs to life.  In a small interview after the event, imagineers mentioned that animating Ariel’s hair was one of the most challenging parts.  Remember, Ariel is under water and so her hair must flow differently because of it.   They did a fantastic job!

As the ride never stops moving, the line moves quickly, too.  Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is a lovely ride and will make you smile!  Be sure to jump to it the next time you visit Disney California Adventure.
