If you are in or near Los Angeles, Ca, this Friday, April 29th through Sunday, May 1st, I invite you to check out the premier Spanish book fair in the US, LéaLA, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.  Doors are open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm each day.  The fair will feature more than 80 renowned authors from all over Latin America, the U.S., and the rest of the Spanish-speaking world including:

  • Isabel Allende
  • Francisco Martín Moreno
  • Alberto Ruy Sánchez,
  • Laura Restrepo,
  • Mónica Lavín,
  • Carmen Boullosa,
  • Elena Poniatowska,
  • Xavier Velasco,
  • Francisco Hinojosa,
  • Pedro Ángel Palou,
  • Paco Ignacio Taibo II,
  • Dra. Isabel Gómez-Bassols
  • Fernanda Familiar

Also, other celebrities including  José José y Dayanara Torres are confirmed to attend.

The Mexican State of Jalisco is the honored special guest and in recognition of its rich culture will present three literary greats: Juan Rulfo, Agustín Yáñez and Juan José Arreola.  In addition,  there will be a performance of “Los placeres de la lengua” (The pleasures of language) with Ofelia Medina and Rubén Albarrán, and their will be performances by the Ballet Folklorico of the University of Guadalajara.  Stars from the worlds of education and entertainment will also take part to foster interest in the Spanish language and to highlight the cultural spectrum and varied traditions of Latinos in this country.  LéaLA is an initiative organized by the University of Guadalajara USA Foundation and supported by the Guadalajara International Book Fair, Feria Internacional del Libro, known worldwide as FIL; and the University of Guadalajara in Los Angeles.

Admission is free, bring your family, LéaLA has special programs for the little ones!
