El Día Mundial del Agua / World Water Day

Yo no sabía que el Día Mundial del agua se celebra el 22 de marzo de cada año.  Este día se celebra con la finalidad de concentrar nuestra atención en la importancia del agua y en abogar por un mantenimiento sustentable de los recursos de agua natural.

Cada año, el Día Mundial del agua presenta un aspecto específico sobre el agua natural.  El objetivo de este año 2011 es concentrar la atención internacional en el impacto que el rápido crecimiento demográfico, la industrialización y la incertidumbre de los cambios climáticos tienen en los sistemas de agua.  Puedes checar los temas de años anteriores aquí. Y para celebrarlo, hoy tengo un sorteo para tí.

Cuando vivía en Mexico, nuestra agua tenía que ser hervida por quince minutos y despues enfriarla antes de poder tomarla.  Después los garrafones de cinco galones llegaron y nos cambiaron la vida.  Pero cuando me mudé a Los Estados Unidos y descubrí que podía tener agua potable para beber en mi propia cocina mediante un filtro para la llave del agua, le dije, bye, bye a los garrafones!

Nosotros no tomamos agua embotellada, tenemos una jarra de PUR con filtro, el agua siempre sabe muy fresca y sabrosa, y a mis hijos les encanta ver como el agua se va filtrando y cayendo dentro de la jarra.

Pero lo mas importante para mi es el ahorro de dinero y el saber que no estoy llenando nuestro hermoso planeta de botellas de plástico.

I didn’t know World Water Day was held annually on March 22nd as a means of focusing attention on the importance of fresh water and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of fresh water.  The objective of World Water Day 2011 is to focus international attention on the impact of rapid urban population growth, industrialization, and uncertainties caused by climate change, conflicts,  and natural disasters on urban water systems.  You can check out the highlighted aspects of previous years right here!  And if you would like further information about World Water Day 2011, please click here!

And to celebrate this day, I have a giveaway just for you.

When I was growing up in Mexico, our drinking water had to be boiled for 15 minutes and cooled down before we could drink it.  Later the big 5 gallon containers came to change our world, but when I moved to the USA and discovered that I could get drinking water from my own kitchen with a faucet mount filter, I said bye bye to the big containers!

We also have a PUR pitcher, the water always taste fresh and my sons love to watch how the water passes through the filter to the bottom!

But the best part is the money I save and the satisfaction I feel that I’m not filling my beautiful planet with plastic bottles.
