Little Pim

Como te lo dije anteriormente, en agosto pasado tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Julia Pimsleur Levine, quien es la fundadora de Little Pim, un lugar en línea donde puedes encontrar muy buenos recursos para ayudarte a enseñar a tus hijos un segundo idioma.

Por los últimos meses mis hijos han estado viendo videos de Little Pim en español y en chino, ¡les encantan! especialmente a mi pequeño de dos años.  El sabe bien quien es Pim y repite cada palabra que escucha.  El video en español ayuda a reforzar este idioma que usamos diariamente en casa, y además ayuda a mi hijo de 6 años a leer en español, gracias a los subtítulos que contiene.

Nadie en casa habla chino, pero mi esposo y yo queremos que mis hijos tengan alguna exposición a él.  Los niños ven el video con gran interés, es fascinante ver como ellos repiten cada palabra que escuchan y su pronunciación es muy parecida a la del video.  Chino parece ser un idioma difícil de aprender, supongo que cualquier idioma es difícil al principio, pero nuestros a nuestros hijos les gusta como suena y no se sienten intimidados con él.

Los videos muestran actividades diarias, e incluyen imágenes de niños con Pim, el oso panda, y otros amigos.  Los videos presentan objetos y acciones que son familiares para los pequeños y usan la repetición como herramienta de aprendizaje.  Cada vez que ponemos el video, mis hijos se divierten, se entretienen y aprenden algo, ¡es genial!

As I mentioned in a previous post, last August I had the opportunity to meet Julia Pimsleur Levine who is the founder of Little Pim, a great online resource for teaching kids another language.

For the past few months my kids have been watching Little Pim videos in Spanish and in Chinese.  They love the videos, specially my two year old.  He knows who Pim is and he repeats every word he hears.  The Spanish video helps reinforce the Spanish we use daily at home, plus it gives my 6 year old the opportunity to read Spanish, thanks to the video’s Spanish subtitles.

No one in our family speaks Chinese, but we wanted to expose our kids to it.  Our kids watch the video with great interest, it is fascinating to see how they repeat the words and how their pronunciation is so similar to the video.  Chinese appears a difficult language to learn, I suppose all languages are at first exposure, but our kids like the sound of it and seem unintimidated by it.

The videos show daily activities and include real kids along with Pim, the Panda, and other friends.  The videos present objects and actions kids are familiar with and use repetition (theme and variation) as a learning tool.  Every time we put a video on the kids have fun, are entertained, and learn something, it’s great!
