State budget cuts have forced our school system to change the starting times for elementary, middle, and high schools. This is supposed to make the buses run more efficiently and will save the school system from buying new buses.

If I had $50,000 to fund one program it would be arts and music because many times that is were the first cuts are made in a budget crunch.
Budget cuts have affected our local schools by having good teachers laid off, not to mention cutting back on music and art programs, both of which I think are highly important.

I think funding arts/music is important for kids. It would give many kids exposure to things they wouldn’t normally see..dance, music, painting, sculpting etc.

It would be the arts. They are really lacking in theater, music and art

I helped lobby for healthier food choices in the lunchroom and getting rid of the soda machines. I’d give the $50,000 to the band – some of their instruments are so old that they can’t go to competitions and really have a chance. All the arts and vocational programs have been affected by the budget cuts, but Virginia doesn’t seem to think that matters. We don’t call it the “Old” Dominion for nothing!
If I had $50,000 to fund one program in school it would be Drama program. It was cancelled do to lack of funds
Congratulations, Linda Lansford

I would never give $50,000 to a public school. Their spending has gotten so out of hand on what they spend it on an how much they spend for items. I would prefer it go to a small private Christian school that works on the minimum and does not take the 501(c) tax exemption. Maybe, some gym/sports equipment.
please and thank you
I would fun the music education program like bands and choir!
Thanks for entering me! Great Contest!

i would fund better physcal education programs and after school sports…to many of our kids are unhealthy from lack of movement
pack lunches with healthy foods and make sure the kids stay active after school
My daughter is entering her second year of preschool. Her first year was wonderful. She loved her teacher and sometimes didn’t want to come home becuase she was loving school so much! However, this year, because of budget cuts, her teacher was moved to a 3rd grade classroom. This was heartbreaking for my husband and I because we felt she was the perfect teacher for our daughter AND a great teacher in general, probably close to the best preschool teacher in the school.

One of the state cuts or changes in our school system has been the German program, proficiency and regents exam.
